This is my own adaptation of the Sunshine String Bag by Elizabeth Moreno.
I used about 1/2 skein (180 yards/skein) of Knit One Crochet Too 2nd Time Cotton for the body of the bag, and about 15 yards of Rowan 100% DK Cotton for the contrasting color; US size 8 and US size 10-1/2 needles.
Knowing I was not going to knit the handles, I cast on 90, added a few more rows of garter stitch to the top, and reversed the instructions to knit the rows instead of purl them (because I’m not very consistent when I purl). The result is about 22” around and 11-1/2” tall. This makes for a great knitting project bag!!
So far, with the bag stuffed to the brim with light-weight items (such as yarn), I have not noticed any shape distortion in the bag – it bounces back very nicely. However, I have also not (and don’t plan to) use it to carry heavier items like groceries or books.
